Sonia Christ

Sonia Christ

Coach and Chair of the Judo Manitoba Women’s Committee

Background

Sonia started judo in Portage La Prairie when she was 8 years old along with her brothers, and her father who joined a few years later.

She had stepped away from the mats for a few years to take the time to raise her young family. Her children have now taken to judo, as the third generation.

Sonia’s love of the sport and her children’s involvement has brought her back to the mats. She enjoyed participating and medalled in many tournaments, which contributed to her earning her nidan. She enjoys working with children.

Sonia strives to continue learning and enjoys coaching, doing Newaza, and Kata, with participating in the odd competition.

She is on the Judo Manitoba Women’s Committee to promote judo for all ages of women and on the Indigenous committee.

Being of Indigenous decent, she encourages and works with Indigenous students in achieving their goals, both on and off the mat.
